October is going to be such a busy month. I’m trying to catch up on everything, including this blog. Ah, I missed another update last month. There are just so many things to do. Sometimes, I wonder when will I ever have enough time for real life and everything else I want to work on. *lol*
Last month, Loon stayed at my place and I didn’t feel like posting that much. I just wanted to spend my time lying in bed, eating, and doing lots of fun things.
But surprise, surprise. We had enough energy to show up at Cosmania ’17 afterall.
We actually took this photo while falling in line at Watsons. I had a sudden dysmenorrhea so we went to buy some painkillers (which I ended up not taking since the pain went away on its own).
Team Virus! Yes, we were sick – hence, the masks. Loon got a cold a week or so before the event. She asked me not to get too close to her or I’ll get infected. But hey, a cold or whatever won’t stop me, would it? ;p A day later, we both got a flu! Hahaha!
Here’s what we wore at the event:
I was intending to shop at Cosmania, but we weren’t able to find the things I was looking for.
Here are a few things I got:
And speaking of finds, here are some more from a recent trip.
Before going home, Loon took me to this little cafe that’s so much worth a visit.
I still have lots of stories and I will post more when I can!
I wasn’t originally planning to go but a couple of weeks before the event, I found out that Spyair would perform as a special guest. I was thrilled to know this but unfortunately, when I came across their poster, the VIP tickets were already sold out. To be honest, I wavered about going with a regular ticket since I usually get VIP. I haven’t really tried attending any other Jpop/Jrock concert locally so I wasn’t sure if that would be okay. I wasn’t sure about how different it would be. But even so, I badly wanted to try watching Spyair live, so I decided to go afterall.
I’m a Gintama fan and I first learned about Spyair through its theme songs. I thought they’re catchy and it fitted the feel of the series perfectly so I looked them up. I tried listening to their other songs and I liked them as well. Hmm… I’m pretty picky when it comes to songs, but there’s something about their melody that I really like. Aside from that, their lives looked so energetic in their videos so I wanted to attend it even once ever since.
I went to the event with Loon. Though we didn’t see the live together, she did accompany me to the venue. Here’s what we wore to the event.
I want to show more outfit details, like the half-pleated culottes that I love, but unfortunately, I don’t have decent photos of them. We didn’t have sufficient time to take some. (I might shoot it once I get enough time to do so.) We arrived at the event pretty late and after having a meal, I quickly headed to the concert venue.
When I asked the ticket seller, she informed me that I can fall in line by 6pm. I planned to arrive before 5:30 to be safe. Around 4pm, I was surprised when a friend told me that they were already at the hall. I headed to the event as soon as we finished our meal. When I arrived, the queue was already long. I found out that some of them had been there since 10am. Whoa!
I was considering to leave the queue since I was near the end of the line anyway. I wanted to shop at the other hall for the meantime. However, I was worried I might not be allowed to re-enter by the time I get back.
It took over an hour or so when the line finally moved. As soon as we entered the venue, I was quite disappointed when I spotted a lot of people sneakily snapping some photos and even videos. If I’m not mistaken, aside from the written rules, it had been mentioned several times that those are not allowed. Why would you do that? As a fan, isn’t it just a form of respect to the artists?
Anyway, as for the concert itself, it was so worth it. The entrance fee was so affordable for a J-rock band performance. I was so glad they included Gintama songs such as Sakura Mitsutsuki, Genjou Destruction, and Some Like It Hot (Samurai Heart) in their lineup.
As soon as the concert was over, I met up with Loon again to head back to her place.
Bonus: Loon buying bread. lol
My favorite quarter of the year has begun. In our country, September marks the start of Xmas season for many. (Yes, seriously.) This season has so many pleasant things to offer. Autumn, Halloween, holidays, hot chocolate and sweater-weather. It never ends. By the way, as I already mentioned before, I was also born in September so it’s another reason why it’s special for me.
I had planned to make the most out of this month. Although I’m not as energetic as I used to be and my schedule can be so unpredictable, I’m always striving to make time for many things outside work. I don’t usually celebrate my birthday but this year, I wanted to do something for a change.
When we were in Manila, we went to this certain restaurant. It wasn’t exactly my birthdate, but since we don’t usually go to the capital, I took the chance to check out this place. We had been planning to give it a try since we read some reviews anyway.
I tried their bestselling squid-ink rice and forest berries tea, while Loon picked the unexpectedly huge beef curry soufflé and a warm cup of Valrhona Guanaja chocolate drink.
Of course, it won’t be complete without the dessert. I chose their signature Valrhona Guanaja dark chocolate souffle, which was actually my main goal. Loon had the delectable matcha parfait with mochi and lots of other Japanese sweets in it.
I’d give this place a high rating. No regrets about dropping by even if it was out of our way. We’d definitely go back to try their other delicacies. (Next target: Grand Crus)
By the way, here’s what we wore that day.
I chose a dark floral skirt to suit the garden-inspired theme of the place. I paired it with a black sheer lolita top from Dear Celine. For Loon, I got this off-white floral dress from her wardrobe, which I thought would be a perfect match to the set I brought.
My skirt has a printed sheer layer which gives it a nice holographic effect that I really love. It gives a dark dreamy feel to it. I was supposed to tie my hair with this ribbon but I decided to keep my hair down, so I wore it around my wrist instead.
Loon’s outfit looks casual and fresh, especially with the shoes we chose for it (No photos, sadly.). She said she received this dress from her mom. I added my bow knot necklace to add some emphasis and detail.
For my birthday, Loon and I spent it with my family. Loon made this tasty cordon bleu, along with some pasta. I was planning to get my favorite KitKat cake from Katarina but sadly, it seems like they don’t sell it anymore. We went for this cappucino cake we got from Harborpoint instead.
Loon also gave me these gifts. Yay!
And lots of pasalubong. Thank you~ Love them all!
A lot of great things are happening and still will. I love September.
August is almost over and that means Xmas my birth month is coming up. The exact date is still a secret though. ;p This year, I have so many plans and I hope everything pushes through.
As for my age, people keep on asking about it but I’ll also keep it to myself. A year ago, I started having a few strands of gray hair. At first, I had unsure feelings about it but then, I realized, “Hey, this actually looks cool. I can rock this.”. Actually, I had been planning to get gray highlights way back, so the fact that they haven’t multiplied by now somehow disappoints me. lol
It might not be noticeable but lately, I also lost a lot of weight. When I weighed myself last month, I was down to 39kg, 6kg below my usual weight, and is the lightest I’ve been as an adult. Last time I was this light was around 10 years ago. 45kg, my ideal weight is still way too low for my height (according to the charts, that is). However, I don’t want to be any heavier than this. I love this weight and how it makes me feel. I’d be happy gaining back the usual. So far, I’m 41-42kg, so it’s just a couple more kg to go.
Back in my youth, being underweight used to be one of my greatest insecurities. Aside from being affected by the norms, I always got teased about it too. As I grew up, I realized that there’s nothing wrong with myself. I eat normally and I rarely get sick. I just happen to be one of those people with a fast metabolic rate. In fact, one of the reasons why I prefer having a homebased job is because I can munch on something anytime I want. (Yep, I’m eating something right now too. lol) I can’t eat large portions at once so I easily get hungry. (Don’t invite me to all-you-can-eat buffets. It’s not worth it.) I like eating small to medium portions several times a day. Anyway, learning to be comfortable with myself helped me improve in a lot of things.
Since I’m trying to gain back my weight lately, I’m also getting back to cooking.
By the way, check out my fabulous new plates! A few weeks ago while I was out for some errands, I passed through the home section and these instantly caught my eye. They are so pretty, right? I got them at an incredibly low price too. I don’t think I’ll want to use these to eat though. I would love to, but I also don’t want them to get ruined so I’m keeping them for now.
We had been planning to see each other again for quite some time. Loon was supposed to come over my place this month, but unfortunately, due to some important matters to attend to, it got postponed. She told me that the souvenirs she bought for me were accumulating and maybe she should just ship them as usual. I refused and offered to pay her a visit to pick them up instead. Besides, I told her she should treat me to a birthday cake since I sang her, albeit terribly, a Happy Birthday song over the phone. Next time she comes over, it’s going to be too late since that will be on my birth month already. I said I should eat that cake at all means. lol Loon dubbed me as the demanding visitor.
The trip from Olongapo to Cavite takes around 6-8 hours. I decided to take the 2am trip to arrive early and have more time to spend on the first day.
For Day 1, we had planned to get a haircut together. We grabbed a quick meal before heading to the salon.
I haven’t had a salon haircut for over 5 years. It’s because I despise having to deal with most of them, especially the ones here in PH. I wanted to give Loon’s usual salon a try since I heard good things about it. Well, my haircut didn’t turn out as much as I envisioned but I loved it nonetheless.
After shopping for a bit, it was getting late so we booked a room somewhere near. Loon brought her new domino and we had a match!
The following day, we went out of town for lunch. That spot had a nice view but it’s such a shame I forgot to take a photo. Here, have some selfies instead. lol
I also took a photo of Loon which reminded me of the one from 2014.
We got something light for lunch since we were planning to eat bulalo somewhere else later on. After our meal though, we entirely forgot about the bulalo. OTL
We were supposed to take a stroll and check out the newly-opened mall nearby, but it suddenly rained on our way out so we went back to Cavite instead. Had some coffee and light snacks and called it a day.
We had a short movie night when we got home. Also tried fire noodles while we were at it.
It was a gloomy day when we woke up so we decided to watch some movies before heading out. Loon’s nieces were nice enough to buy us some ice scramble. The taste was so nostalgic! It has been my favorite since elementary school days.
On our way out, we also encountered a maruya seller. It looked and smelled so nice so I wanted to give it a try. It was a lot better than usual. It was so crunchy and warm, I regret getting just two. We gotta learn how to make it this crunchy!
We got some pizza, pasta and ice cream before checking out some stuff to buy.
We had cake, finallyyyyyyyyy. *demanding visitor mode*
Ah yeah, of course, there was the obligatory “Kambal kayo? Magkapatid? Magpinsan? Ano pala?” comment, while we were eating. I feel like randomly being in Pinoy Henyo everytime this happens.
After having cake, we headed home and watched another movie. I was not able to finish it since I quickly fell asleep in the middle of Loon’s massage.
Overall, I absolutely enjoyed my stay as usual. I really want to return sometime soon since there are lots of new establishments that are about to open. Gotta try them all!
Here’s a snapshot of our outfits for all three days. As usual, I chose something light and easy to wear. For Day 1, I wanted it to be gender-neutral and extra warm since I easily get cold from long trips. For Day 2 and 3, I chose something easy to pack up.
It’s been a while! Unfortunately, I had to go MIA for a couple of months due to a little sickness, work, and some room renovations. Despite my inactivity, I do appreciate being invited to be a judge once again in a cosplay event in my hometown. When Rhei asked me about it, I thought it over since I have a terrible sleep schedule. At the moment, it’s falling asleep on dusk, getting up around midnight, and going back to sleep in the morning until noon. I had been wondering if I could go out and socialize at all. This was also the reason why this post was delayed. I was physically drained and fell asleep as soon as I got home *old people probs* I kept on dozing off while I was trying to update. lol Anyway, let’s get started! Here’s the event poster:
Before anything else, I just want to say that I’m really glad to have these kinds of events in Olongapo. Back in 2004 when I started cosplaying, there wasn’t anybody else here I could relate to. The following year, an old friend, Gibs, gave it a try and did so well at the craft. (I kinda expected this level from him though since we used to draw a lot back in highschool and he was already amazing when it came to arts.) Although I wasn’t here when Otaku Maru started, I had seen it flourish since I got back from Japan around 2011-2012. This organization had humble beginnings, starting their events in a small outdoor space and eventually growing into a much bigger one. Nowadays, the events are usually held at Harborpoint, which is not only more spacious but comfortable as well. There are lots of skilled cosplayers too. Many of them already migrated to Manila and abroad, but still, a lot of promising ones remain and I’m proud of it. (And hah! I’m such a proud Olongapeño, if that’s not obvious yet! lol)
This year, I judged the event with Lenorf and Mitchelle, who travelled all the way from Manila. Glad to have them both!
While waiting, I spent most of my time chatting with Kelcey. I’m so happy she decided to attend.
Here are our selected winners for the competition. (Third, Second and First Place, respectively). What do you think?
And yep, I didn’t cosplay. I just don’t have the time to create a new one yet. A lot of people were asking about my character (I even got comments about DRRR!!) but lol it’s just me and my usual clothes. I think it was another great opportunity to wear some things I always wanted to wear from my closet. I still have a lot and I rarely go out! *hikikomori probs*
Outfit details: White shirt (Funky♡), Black shirt (Knick Knack), Long cardigan (Black Peace Now), Pants (Rococo), Shoulder bag (Bodyline), Other bag, Shoes, Hat, Scarf, Necklace(Unbranded)
I was torn whether I should go for a classic Ouji attire or something more casual with a similar feel. I decided to go for the latter since I wanted it to be more effortless, comfortable and easy to wear. Plus, I have more clothes under this category anyway.
I would like to send a lot of thanks to Loon, for helping me with the outfit. I think I like this better than my first plan.
Lastly, to the organizers and everyone who had been a part of this event, most of all, to Hydrogenesis and Otaku Maru, thanks a lot!
Last month, although I was able to make more progress compared to my previous pace, I was still disappointed with myself because I knew I was still slacking off. I had been planning to push myself further to accomplish even more this month. I had a lot of things to do in line. But unfortunately, due to struggling with some… health issues, I had no choice but to sit back and take some rest. I’ll probably talk more about these frustrations in my next posts.
On the brighter side, a friend sent some photos he took of us from last year so I can still maintain my two-posts-a-month streak. (Yey~)
These shots were taken when we attended Cosplay Mania last October 2016. I had been trying to avoid saying gloomy things but sadly, these were some of the last few coordinates I styled for us, while we were together as a couple.
Dressing up for me is a form of art. I always feel great satisfaction everytime I find pieces that look like they are made to go together (especially if they’re from different collections/brands). Blending colors and textures in perfect harmony always brings me pleasure beyond words. Clothes and accessories that reflect a part of me are hidden gems. Fashion is like an extension of my skin. (I actually wanted to say “an extension of my soul”, but I don’t believe in souls lol)
I think these coordinates can be classified under what they would refer to in Japan as “puchipura“(プチプラ), as I didn’t choose pieces from the more expensive brands. (The term puchipura was coined from “petit” and “price“).
Anyway, let’s get to it! Here’s what we wore for Day 1. We arrived at the event around 6pm or so because we spent our entire afternoon falling in line for Pablo’s Cheesecake. lol *no regrets*
This shot was taken by one of our favorite Filipino photographers, Kira Hokuten.
Loon’s skirt was actually something I bought from ACDC Rag for my little sister around 5 years ago. (She chose it herself lol) She had grown a lot now and it seems like she has no plans of wearing it anymore so I borrowed it for this set.
The chokers and necklaces were Loon’s finds. Her safety pin bracelet was from Bodyline and the cute leg accessory was something commisioned by Ian Cartalaba. Check out his shop here.
It makes me sad that I forgot to include the black cat plush as one of my favorite items in my Friday the 13th post. (I might edit that next time.) I bought this from a random shop in 0101 Shinjuku, if I remember it right. It’s so cute it even has a small pocket at the back. I used to annoy my favorite cat with this plush too.
Another great shot by Kira. This one is my favorite among the set. \(^o^)/
I’m not a dog person but as soon as I saw the length, texture, and design of the longsleeves, I was delighted and immediately bought it. I knew it would perfectly match that shirt. The crop top I wore was originally a dress, which I modified. I got the sunglasses from a local street vendor for as low as 50pesos($1). lol Lately, I’m also getting fond of more comfortable pieces such as those pants and shoes.
For Day 2, we decided to go for something more simple because we intended to roam around the event longer.
This lovely shot was taken by another friend, Emman. You may visit his page here.
This jumper from Forever 21 felt majestic to wear. lol The lower part somehow reminded me of a certain coat I have from BPN. The sheer fabric was very light and soft and the drape felt like I was wearing a cape. Although, the length made me a little bit paranoid while riding the escalator.
It’s not visible in this photo but at the back of Loon’s shoes, there are black strips with similar “Love” design like the one on her skirt. Her mini panda bag is 3x more adorable up close. It even has a little bamboo design at the tip.
My rabbit bag here belongs to Loon. The design makes me think of Alice in Wonderland. And yes, as you may notice, we “recycled” the bag and shoes for this set too because multiple shoes and bags are too heavy to carry all the way to Manila. (/tagabundok probs)
It was such a windy day! You may visit Kira’s page for more photos like this.
I wish there are more chances to dress up like this. But aside from the Ph heat, I don’t have the vigor to go out that often anymore. (/old people probs lol)
First of all, I finally got a camera remote control. (Yey!) Although, it’s hard to focus using this and it only allows me to have 2 seconds to prepare, as opposed to the camera’s 10-second timer. Brighter side is that it takes a lot less energy compared to going back and forth to the camera to press the button. Next goal: proper lights!
Since I’m not making chocolates this Valentine’s, I decided to dress like one. (Well, two actually. ;p)
This Liz Lisa jsk immediately reminded me of chocolates as soon as I saw it. It resembles a fancy chocolate box, don’t you think? For the hair accessory, I picked something simple to give it a bit of otona vibe.
Sometimes, people would tell me that they’re curious about how I would look like without my signature bangs. Here you go. I did my makeup differently though. (And let me answer what you’re thinking. Yes, Luna is gone. This abomination devoured her.lol)
Sweet image is one of my weaknesses. As expected, the outcome didn’t turn out as girly as I hoped to be (lol) but that’s just me being me being bittersweet, like how I prefer my chocolates.
The idea behind this was inspired by Teru’s Rock and Read issue. I took a photo of my dansou self to match the other one.
I might have been eating too much chocolates because I can’t help but think that the coat’s buttons look yummy enough to eat. lol
Anyway, let me give you a peek to what I’m referring to. (I love it so much I got two copies. I was even planning three but practicality got the better of me.)
Teru: Someone who can do both
What are your plans for Valentine’s? Like any other day, alone or not, let’s make it a good one. Afterall, the person who loves us most is ourselves.
